Tag Festival At Enniscorthy
It is now 20 years since Enniscorthy RFC last won the Provincial Towns Cup so now in 2009, that team is reuniting to help launch Enniscorthy RFC’s new Tag Rugby season on Easter Saturday (April 11) at 7pm.
Enniscorthy RFC is ‘going back to the 1980s’ in hosting a celebrity Tag Rugby match on the evening. This match will be between the 1989 Provincial Towns Cup-winning squad and the 1988 Seconds Towns Cup-winning squad.
The Tag Festival, which will also take place on the night, is a great opportunity for anyone to try Tag rugby for themselves.
They can see how much fun the sport is and get a taster of the summer season ahead at the venue. It is also a chance for the many teams from last year to get back together and catch up.
Remember Tag rugby is a strictly a non-contact sport. No rugby experience is required – you just need to be able to run and dodge!
Just as importantly, it is open to teams made up of both men and women to play.
So come along on Saturday, April 11 where there will be plenty of games and lots of fun to be had.
Charlie Kavanagh, President of Enniscorthy RFC, said: “The match is just for fun and with the non-contact nature of Tag rugby, it’s hoped that the veteran players can dust off their boots and hobble, walk or crawl around the pitch for a few minutes!
“The evening will finish off with an 80s disco and I hope plenty of banter and recollections.”
The growth of Tag rugby has been successful in spreading the popularity of the game of rugby.
Its non-contact nature and social aspect have made it accessible to both men and women in the specially graded levels
