Midleton, Kinsale and Ballincollig Rugby Clubs will all play host to Bud Light Tag from May 21 through to July this summer. Tag rugby teams and teams in Cork city and county are being encouraged to register while spaces are available.
At the launch in Cork city, Munster and Ireland stars Mick O’Driscoll and Ronan O’Gara joined members of the tag team from Bob Fox’s pub on Washington Street who will be competing in the Ballincollig RFC Tag League.
Mick Galwey has also lent his support as the ambassador for the IRFU’s Tag rugby leagues.
The Munster legend competed in the leagues last year and showed up at the Dingle Beach Tag event where he teamed up with his Gaelic football pals Marc O Se and Dara O Cinneide.
Commenting on the launch of Bud Light Tag in Cork, Galwey said: “Tag rugby is great craic although there are a few that take it fairly seriously too!
“Thousands of people have signed up for it again this year and we’re taking the leagues to 25 venues across the country which includes six of the Munster clubs.
“It’s great for the rugby clubs as well to get so many people out playing during the summer months which is normally a quiet time on the rugby front.”
In addition to the 25 clubs hosting Bud Light Tag leagues, the IRFU will also be hosting five Beach Tag festivals in Cork, Kerry, Wexford, Sligo and Antrim over the summer.
The leagues will culminate in the All-Ireland finals which are scheduled to take place on July 25, hosted this year by Garryowen FC.
