O’Driscoll Agrees New Munster Deal

Munster completed their preparations for Saturday’s Heineken semi-final against Leinster with a final closed training session at Musgrave Park, buoyed by the news that their experienced lock Mick O’Driscoll has agreed a new contract with the province.

Tony McGahan’s Munster squad will depart for Dublin tomorrow, expecting to arrive in Heuston Station sometime in the early afternoon.

After their arrival in the capital, the Munster management, team officials and players will head straight to Croke Park for their Captain’s Run training session.

And despite reports in the press today, that there was an injury doubt about Ian Dowling, the Kilkenny-born winger took a full part in a robust session at Musgrave Park.

Meanwhile, there was good news for Munster ahead of their clash with Leinster in that Mick O’Driscoll has accepted a new contract.

O’Driscoll, who has played in 17 of Munster’s 24 competitive games so far this season, rejected overtures from French clubs to commit himself to his home province for the next two seasons.

The 30-year-old Corkman, a member of Ireland’s Grand Slam-winning squad, has captained Munster on seven occasions this season.

Commenting on the news, O’Driscoll said: “I’m delighted my immediate future in rugby has been resolved.

“I would like to thank Garrett Fitzgerald, the Munster CEO, and all involved for their help in bringing the issue to a satisfactory conclusion at such an opportune time with Heineken Cup and Magners League matters very much my focus.”
