Harris-Wright Completes Clontarf Switch

Some of the latest Leinster club transfers have been confirmed in recent days, including former Ireland Under-20 hooker Jason Harris-Wright’s switch from Greystones to Clontarf and moves for Glenn Howard (Terenure College) and Alex O’Sullivan (Galwegians) to Bective Rangers.

Leinster Academy member Jason Harris-Wright has become the latest former underage international to join Clontarf as the north Dubliners strengthen their squad ahead of the new AIB League season.

‘Tarf came agonisingly close to lifting the Division One trophy in May but lost on try countback to Shannon in an extra-time thriller at Thomond Park.

With Leinster’s Heineken Cup-winning hooker Bernard Jackman on board as director of rugby and forwards coach and Simon Broughton the new head coach, the Castle Avenue outfit have been busy in the transfer market.

Harris-Wright, who has 10 Ireland Under-20 caps to his name, Cathal Barry (Old Belvedere) and Paul Mullin (Ashbourne) have become the latest captures for Clontarf.

Bective Rangers, who finished tenth in AIB League Division Two last season, have recruited heavily as they look to launch a challenge for promotion.

Greystones quartet David Carney, Sean Carroll, David Nutty and Robin O’Sullivan have joined Bective, along with John Byrne (Dublin University), Daire Fitzgerald, Kevin O’Brien and Anthony O’Reilly (all Railway Union), Glenn Howard (Terenure College), Nathan Lawless (OLBC), Gavin Nyawata (Lansdowne), Rory O’Reilly (Wicklow) and Alex O’Sullivan (Galwegians).

Meanwhile, talented back rower Matt Nagle has been announced as UCD’s club captain for their first season back in AIB League Division Two.

The 23-year-old medical student takes over the position from Michael Hastings who has departed Belfield for Old Wesley.

With a conveyor belt of talent pushing through, UCD Chairman Billy Murphy said: “I am delighted to report that all bar two members of last season’s successful Under-20 ‘A’ and ‘B’ squads will be playing with UCD next season.

“We have also retained a strong spine of more seasoned players, we’ll have Michael Twomey and Andy Cummiskey re-joining UCD following their Erasmus years and the interest in the Academy from schools and club players has never been stronger.

“Our senior, junior and Under-20 squads will have a very good pool of players from which to select.”
