Ken Clark: 1931 – 2009

The IRFU is saddened at the recent passing of Ken Clark, who was a distinguished international referee in the 1970s.

Ken Clark’s playing career as a centre at 1st XV level was ended by injury, and he joined the Ulster Society of Referees in 1959.

Ken’s talents were quickly recognised and in addition to many league and cup finals and interprovincial matches, he refereed the Oxford v Cambridge Varsity match, and three Five Nations matches – England v France (1973), Scotland v France (1974) and France v England (1976).

Until recently, he was a most supportive assessor bringing the same qualities of game knowledge and courtesy which were hallmarks of his refereeing.

The deepest sympathy of the IRFU is extended to his wife, Dorothy, and to all his family.
