Stillorgan Secure Metro Spencer Pennant Win

Malahide RFC was the venue for the Metropolitan Spencer Pennant last weekend as Emerald Warriors, Guinness, Stillorgan and Tallaght all played in a round robin format, which produced highly competitive matches.

It was noted that the fitness and skill levels for begining of season competition were highly commendable.

The large crowd of supporters were treated to fast-running, entertaining, closly fought matches with holders Stillorgan facing Guinness in the final.

The deciding game was keenly contested, with strong attacking rugby from each side, but stout defence from both sides brought them into extra time at 0-0.

The hero of the afternoon was Stillorgan captain Shane O’Brien who dropped-kicked the winner in the first period of extra-time.

Commiserations to Aidan Tyrell and the Guinness team. As the Pennant is the qualifier to the Spencer Cup, Stillorgan will face Railway Union on September 5.

Leinster Rugby’s Metropolitan Committee wish to congratulate and thank all the participants, their coaches who turned up with full panels, back-up staff, the ARLB and Alex, Owen and Ultan for their efforts.

Once again many thanks to Malahide RFC for the use of their superb facilities.
