ScrumQueens.com is a brand new website dedicated to women’s rugby. The site is the brainchild of former Ireland Women’s Press Officer and Highfield RFC member Alison Donnelly.
Former Irish Women’s rugby PRO Alison Donnelly has launched a new website for the international women’s rugby community.
Donnelly, who looked after PR for the national team in Ireland for four years until 2008 before moving to London, has launched www.scrumqueens.com during a pivotal year for the sport with a final decision on whether to make Rugby Sevens an Olympic sport, which would include women, due in October.
The Women’s Rugby World Cup will also take place next summer in London.
The site features international rugby tournament news and information from leading competitions such as the Women’s RBS 6 Nations, Nations Cup, and Women’s Rugby World Cup, real-time results, a world fixtures calendar and an interactive gallery for the women’s community.
ScrumQueens.com, which will include both professional and user-generated content, is to host a wide range of blogs from well known names in the women’s sport, including current Irish rugby international Fiona Coghlan and international rugby referee Clare Daniels.
It will also feature regular guest bloggers from the world of rugby and sport looking at issues facing both the men’s and women’s game.
Coghlan’s blog will also be posted on www.irishrugby.ie and the site will host a series of country pages including a dedicated ‘Ireland’ page.
While in Ireland, Donnelly represented the Highfield women’s team. In London she initially worked at Sky Sports and currently works for the BBC.
She said: “It’s been a fantastic year for the women’s game with the IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens featuring women for the first time and next month the England women’s team will take on the world champion Black Ferns at Twickenham as part of a men’s double header in what should offer some major exposure for the game.
“We feel there’s a real need for a strong online portal for the game and we’re delighted with the look and feel of the site.
“I’m looking forward to running plenty of news and feature stories about the Irish representatives teams,” she added.
IrishRugby.ie would like to wish ScrumQueens.com all the best for the future.
