Midlands Welcomes Two New Clubs

As part of Leinster Rugby’s determination to cast the net near and far province wide, last week saw the launches of Streete RFC and Midland Warriors RFC in County Westmeath.

Streete have been active in Community Games Tag Rugby programmes for several years and committed to the growth of rugby in the community with the employment of Youth Development Officer Cecil Bennett two years ago.

Cecil has been doing fantastic work coaching in the local National Schools and last week saw the culmination of everyone’s effort with the launch of the mini rugby section (Under-8 to Under-12) at an open day at Streete Parish Park.

The Heineken Cup and the RBS 6 Nations and Triple Crown trophies were on site as part of the celebrations and the large numbers in attendance bodes very well. Training at Streete Parish Park, County Westmeath continues every Sunday at 10.30am.

Elsewhere in Westmeath, the Midland Warriors kicked off their mini and youth rugby section for the season in Moate.

Having participated until recently in events in Connacht, Leinster Rugby are delighted to welcome the Warriors this season.

With teams at every age group from Under-8 to Under-19 and a hard working group of volunteers, the Warriors are expected to make a big impact across the region.

Training at the Showgrounds, Moate, County Westmeath continues every Sunday at 11.30am.
