New Pitch Development Programme For Skerries

Skerries RFC President Michael Murphy has launched the club’s new pitch development programme with a unique and ambitious plan to replace its old playing surfaces at Holmpatrick.

Skerries RFC has already this year installed brand new international standard floodlighting at the club’s Holmpatrick grounds and together with the recently upgraded and extended clubhouse facilities and with this new venture, are aiming to be the best equipped club in Fingal with two new state-of-the-art pitches and extended training areas.

Formed in 1926, Skerries today has over 600 club members with a vibrant and very successful youths and minis section.

Their Under-16s were All-Ireland champions in 2008 and there are currently five Skerries players on the Leinster Youths team with one of these, Mickey Sherlock, representing his club and province on the Ireland Youth side.

To maintain its commitment to the development of rugby in the community, Skerries are eager to upgrade their facilities to the highest level and to this end have launched their ‘Perfect Pitch’ project.

Skerrieshave unveiled a ‘virtual’ rugby pitch which has been divided into 9000 sq. metres.

Each of those sq. metres is available to members and supporters alike, to have their name displayed in perpetuity as having contributed to the making of this new phase in the history of Skerries Rugby Club.

Contributions levels are varied from corporate level all the way down to €;20 per sq. metres and the overall target is €;180,000 with members and supporters having already contributed over €;25,000.

So, from Bahrain to Balbriggan Street, from Shenick to Sydney, the supporters and friends of Skerries Rugby Club will now have the opportunity to leave their mark on the new ‘Perfect Pitch’ at Holmpatrick.
