Lewis Launches Bud Light Tag Ref Reward Scheme

With the growth of Bud Light Tag also comes a need for professionally trained referees to ensure that the non-contact and fun aspects of the game are adhered to. The IRFU has now launched its Referee Reward Scheme for Bud Light Tag in 2010.

Developed and supported by the governing body of rugby in Ireland, referees in Bud Light Tag are a vital ingredient in this the fastest growing sport in Ireland.

The Referee Reward Scheme is a method of rewarding referees for their time and dedication during the season.

For every number of games officiated, points are earned which earn said referee exclusive PUMA Irish rugby kit. Only the best for the best Tag refs around!

Courses for Bud Light Tag referees will be held at selected host venues very shortly. These courses will be presented by Irish international referee, Peter Fitzgibbon, who is also referee development officer for the IRFU’s Leisure Rugby Department.

Bud Light Tag provides a non-contact form of rugby for men and women of all abilities to be played during the summer at first-class rugby facilities around Ireland and is an increasingly popular way to keep a rugby club active during a time when it is normally at its quietest.

International referee Alan Lewis said: “Witnessing the growth of the rugby community through Bud Light Tag is wonderful to see as well as introducing referees to the game.

“It is the perfect opportunity for a novice to gain some experience and a fantastic way to keep fit and active during the summer months in between the regular season.

“The referee programme in Bud Light Tag has grown each year with the spread of official IRFU Tag, but we are always keen to bring more referees into the game and as a starting point you could not find a better environment.”

To sign up as a Bud Light Tag referee, go to the Referees section of www.irfutag.ie and register. Any queries may be directed by email to tagref@irishrugby.ie.
