Edenderry RFC held the opening ceremony for their new Conditioning Centre recently and the Offaly club was very proud to have Leinster, Ireland and Lions winger Luke Fitzgerald down for the occasion as the guest of honour.
Luke Fitzgerald was visibly impressed with the work which has been put into Edenderry’s Conditioning Centre and explained how fitness, especially muscular fitness, plays such an important roll in the modern game of rugby.
The Leinster Branch of the IRFU was represented by the Leinster Branch Honorary Secretary Des Kavanagh, and the Junior Secretary Trevor Merrey.
Dave Fagan, Derek Maybury, Dermot O’Mahony, who are all from the Leinster Branch, and Tullamore RFC President Sean Joyce were also in attendance.
Edenderry entertained Railway Union in their Leinster Junior League Division 3A game on the same day and capped a great day with a 29-13 victory which guarantees them promotion to Division 2 next season.
The club also fielded three adult teams plus the Under-19s on the day, no small feat.
The day was a great success and was very well supported by the members and supporters of the club and it was a great treat for the upcoming stars of the Edenderry underage teams to meet one of their rugby heroes.
