Boyne And Tullamore In Towns Cup Final

Boyne And Tullamore In Towns Cup Final

Boyne will defend their Towns Cup title in Naas RFC on Sunday when challengers Tullamore will hope to regain the crown they last held in 2006. This promises to be a wonderful day of club rugby, so do not miss out!

Tullamore have made a habit of reaching cup finals in recent seasons and defending Towns Cup champions Boyne are not far behind them.

This match is a replay of last season’s final which went the way of the Louth club. Tullamore still won silverware last season though, when they took the AIB Junior Cup from Navan, in the second final in-a-row between the sides.

Boyne’s road to the 2010 Towns Cup final started in round 2, following a bye. They travelled to Tullow and came away with a narrow 8-5 victory.

In round 3, they were troubled by Enniscorthy but eventually won 18-13 in front of their home crowd before progressing to the semi-final where they outgunned Cill Dara 36-11.

Tullamore, who finished third behind Boyne and Seapoint in Division 1A of the Leinster Junior League, started their cup campaign with a big win over Carlow in the first round.

They followed it up with an equally impressive 24-3 win over Arklow in round 2.

Round 3 saw them on the road to Porlaoise where they squeezed past by a single point and the semi-final in Navan saw them run out 27-18 winners over Dundalk.

There is very little between the sides as both won their home game against the other in the league this season.

The final kicks off in Naas this coming Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm, and it promises to be a cracking game of rugby in front of a big crowd.
