Exiles Help Set New Guinness World Record

On Saturday, April 3, an Irish Exiles side took part in a world record attempt. The record? The highest number of players ever to play in a rugby match. It is hoped that Guinness World Records® will confirm the world record within the next few weeks.

The match took place amid mild conditions at Towcestrians RFC in Northamptonshire and involved several local clubs as well as teams representing the charities that were being supported by those watching the game.

The match began with appearances from the home club’s youth teams before the adult sides slugged it out in an extraordinarily high-scoring game without conversions.

The Exiles side took their place in history when they joined the fray after five hours and so began the endurance test for the likes of Scott Browne, Dan Falvey, James Falvey, David Devlin-Jones and Ben Howard.

These players acquitted themselves well in a match where the score soared far into the hundreds. Needless to say, nobody was counting!

After the final whistle, an auction was held to raise money for Help for Heroes, the Royal British Legion and the Wooden Spoon charities.

One of the items was an Ireland rugby shirt signed by the Ireland squad and donated by the IRFU.
