Irish Referee Takes Charge Of Sevens Final

IRFU referee David Keane earned another honour last weekend as he took charge of the final of the Emirates Airline South Africa Sevens tournament, which was the second event in the HSBC Sevens World Series. Keane, who earlier this year notched up his 100th game on the IRB Sevens circuit, is a full-time Referee Development Officer with the IRFU.

David Keane refereed his 100th IRB Sevens game in Ediburgh earlier this year and has been a regular on the circuit for a number of seasons. He was also on the referee panel for this year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup which took place in England in August.

Keane works full-time as a Referee Development Officer for the IRFU and his appointment to last weekend’s South Africa Sevens final is another well-earned reward for the Union’s work in developing referees as well as his own hard work and commitment.

He is well known on the domestic scene and has refereed matches in the All-Ireland League, Magners League and Amlin European Challenge Cup as well as underage and ‘A’ internationals.

He made his representative debut when he refereed the Namibia v Tunisia Rugby World Cup qualifier in Windhoek in October 2006.
