Ulster Bank League: Match Previews

There are only three Ulster Bank League fixtures this weekend as clubs catch up on their games in hand. There is still plenty at stake with promotion and play-offs on the line in all three.

ULSTER BANK LEAGUE: Saturday, April 9

Kick-off 2.30pm unless stated –

DIVISION 2:

Old Wesley (12th) v Ballymena (5th), Donnybrook

A disappointing season for Old Wesley but this game in hand offers a chance to improve their standing.

It is, however, a huge game for the visitors. Ballymena have a chance to take pole position in the race for automatic promotion to Division 1B if they win here on Saturday.

A win of any hue puts the Braidmen into third and while promotion will have to wait until the final day, a loss could dent their chances of even grabbing the fifth place play-off spot.

Thomond (15th) v De La Salle Palmerston (11th), Liam Fitzgerald Park

This is a huge match for lowly Thomond on Saturday. A win means they avoid the promotion/relegation play-off clash with the fifth-placed team in a very competitive Division 3.

Thomond won the key battle against Old Crescent last weekend but a victory here would make them comfortable for the last round of games next week.

De La Salle Palmerston went down to Midleton last time out and could find the going tough at Liam Fitzgerald Park.

DIVISION 3:

Banbridge (5th) v Highfield (12th), Rifle Park

Banbridge are nine points behind Greystones so in theory two bonus point wins in their last two games and a favour from Navan on the last weekend could see them take one of the four automatic promotion places.

Highfield lost to City of Derry last weekend but they can still pose problems for any side when they are on form.

It is a case of all or nothing at Rifle Park for the home team though as they have Rainey Old Boys and Nenagh Ormond looking to steal fifth place and a shot at the play-off.
