Brian’s Blog: Tank Gets Tweeting And Gym Gains

The Ireland squad have a new tweeter in their midst – the one and only Tullow Tank, @SeanOBrien1987. Brian O’Driscoll fills us in on life in camp this week in his latest O2 Rugby blog.

Sean O’Brien finally joined the Twitter universe at about 11am Irish time (11pm in New Zealand) on Wednesday. I gave him a tutorial in the team room surrounded by five or six other players.

Even though I helped flag his arrival on Twitter, I actually had to remind him to follow me – how ungrateful is that!

He’ll be like a kid on Christmas morning tomorrow when he wakes up and checks how many followers he has at that point.

A goal will be to catch his back row buddies (Stephen) Ferris and (Jamie) Heaslip. On a personal tangent, I was staggered to reach the six figure mark myself during the week (Brian now has over 101,000 followers on Twitter).

I have been tweeting a great deal lately, putting more into my app but that will change when I eventually return to the day job. People must have a strong constitution to put up with my rambling and random thoughts!

My better half (Amy) is coming to join me – my folks are also here – having spent some time in Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand, where she did a parachute jump from 10,000 feet.

I muscled my way into the Munster contingent in going out for a nice steak dinner the other night. When we arrived it Wellington it was lashing rain and on the Tuesday we trained at the Hurricanes indoor facility.

In the afternoon I managed a couple of personal bests in the gym. I also spotted Ronan O’Gara a +4 advantage in the CMJ (Counter Movement Jump) and still annihilated him – not that it is anything to brag about as everyone does!

We’ve been spoiled rotten with the support so far but we’re hoping that it will continue for Saturday’s quarter-final against Wales.

It’s been absolutely phenomenal and invaluable in pushing the team further every time. We’d like to given them something to shout about again this weekend.
