Top International Award For Aviva Stadium

Last night at the British Industry Construction Awards, the Aviva Stadium was honoured in the International Category. The British Construction Industry International Category is open to projects outside the United Kingdom for which a UK-based British firm has made a significant contribution.

Consulting engineers Buro Happold were part of the Aviva Stadium project team which also included Populous, Scott Tallon Walker and PM Group.

This is the twelfth award that the Aviva Stadium has won since its opening in May 2010. Among the awards it has won are those for innovation, architecture, civil engineering, accessibility and for its unique polycarbonate roof.

Speaking of the awards, Aviva Stadium Director Martin Murphy said: “The British Industry Construction Awards are highly coveted and when you look at the many international projects considered for these awards, it is a great honour that the top international award went to the Aviva Stadium.”

The shortlist for the International Category also included:

• Samuel Beckett Bridge, Dublin

• Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, USA

• Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Abu Dhabi, UAE

• Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center, Kazakhstan

• Khalifa Port Marine Structures and Reclamation, Abu Dhabi

Anthony Oliver, the editor of NCE (New Civil Engineer), said of the awards: “Our shortlist truly underlined the fine line that now exists at the top end of quality construction delivery.

“The good news is that, regardless of economic downturns, in the two decades that these awards have celebrated success, the bar has never been raised so high.”
