Ulster Bank League: Friday Night Lights Action

There is a feast of Friday Night Lights action in Dublin and Wicklow this week with the Ulster Bank League set to light up Castle Avenue, Anglesea Road, Dr. Hickey Park and Aviva Stadium.

Wanderers will be keenly watching the skies in the next few days as they are finally set to make their debut on the main pitch at the Aviva Stadium.

They face Suttonians in one of four Ulster Bank League games set for the ‘Friday Night Lights’ treatment this week. It is appropriate that Suttonians are the scheduled opposition as they were the last team to face Wanderers on the main pitch in the old Lansdowne Road.

Originally down to open their league season in the stadium against Nenagh Ormond, a downpour similar to that seen earlier this week meant that game was moved to Merrion Road.

Co-tenants at headquarters, Lansdowne, hosted reigning Division 1 champions Old Belvedere under the lights at the Aviva Stadium recently – a game that was streamed live on IrishRugby.ie.

This Friday night there are two big games in Division 1A as current leaders Clontarf host Lansdowne, while ‘Belvo bring floodlit action back to Anglesea Road when they face Blackrock College in another Dublin derby.

In Division 2A, the table toppers De La Salle Palmerston travel to Dr. Hickey Park to face a Greystones side that is still adapting. ‘Stones will expect a big crowd for this local clash that kicks of at 8 pm.
