Three coaches from Sullivan Upper School, Hollywood have successfully completed the IRFU’s Certified Conditioning Coach course. The course gives coaches the opportunity to become a Certified Conditioning Coach (CCC).
The Certified Conditioning Coach course is intended to help coaches gain the confidence and competence to condition and prepare the players in their charge in a safe and enjoyable manner for the game of rugby.
The coaches who achieved certification were Sam McBurney, Lawrence Kelly and Jonny Dixon. This is an excellent achievement by the coaches and in particular Sullivan Upper School as this is the first time there has been three certified conditioning coaches from the same school.
Once the coaches completed the CCC course week, they successfully completed their periodised plan, first aid cert, functional assessment, MCQs and finally two site visits from an assessor.
IRFU fitness education manager Des Ryan said: “They have shown excellent commitment in developing themselves as fitness coaches and developing the players in the school with appropriate physical development content.”
If you are interested in completing the IRFU Certified Conditioning Coach course, the IRFU are now taking bookings for the 2012 Certified Conditioning Coach course.
The course is part of a process in which the participant will be offered ongoing support over a three-year period through club and school visits and access to a network of certified conditioning coaches.
The Certified Conditioning Coach course is a practical hands-on course where you will see and practice the many drills and exercises that are appropriate for conditioning rugby players at all levels.
More learning will occur as you return to your club or school and continue the process.
There are two options to complete the course – the first is in Thomond Park (June 25-29) and the second is in the Aviva Stadium (July 2-6).
