IRFU Twitter Page Passes 100,000 Milestone.
The hugely popular Irish rugby Twitter page, www.twitter.com/irfurugby, has become the first of the Six Nations Unions to hit the 100,000 followers mark.
It has taken close to 10,000 tweets to make Irish rugby the second most popular social media platform of all Unions in world rugby.
Commenting on the Twitter milestone, Padraig Power, Commercial and Marketing Director of the IRFU, said: “We are very grateful to all our 100,000 followers who keep up to date on Irish rugby news and views.
“The IRFU has very much embraced social media platforms as a means of communicating effectively with our supporters, players and clubs all year round.
“It’s that commitment to on-going engagement that has fuelled the rapid rise in followers for our Twitter page. We vary our content as much as possible from online conversations with supporters and players to polls and competitions as well as highlighting all rugby news from grassroots to international level.
“Twitter has also allowed the clubs of Ireland and the IRFU to create its own digital community to keep the stakeholders of the game up to date in tandem with the other IRFU digital platforms.
“From a commercial perspective we have found it to be a useful tool to spread the message on ticket sales to great effect which has played its part in filling the Aviva Stadium for last season’s internationals.”
Just after our Twitter followers swelled to six figures, we tweeted: “Over 100,000 followers. Thank you to all for the support, banter and interest. #irishrugby looking forward to next season already!”
