‘Rock Launch ‘Friends First Castle Trophy’ To Celebrate Stradbrook Milestone

Blackrock College RFC are marking their 50th year in Stradbrook by launching an U21 rugby festival to contest the ‘Friends First Castle Trophy’.

The original Festival began in Stradbrook in 1962 and was for Senior All Ireland Teams so from this season they are introducing it as an U21 All Ireland with the teams that qualified into the Play-offs of the Frazer McMullen competition along with Blackrock College RFC.

This U21 Festival has the support of both the Leinster Branch and the IRFU and is scheduled for the Saturday 22nd September from 12pm.

The teams will be playing for the magnificent Friends First Castle Trophy’ on a perpetual basis along with a Plate and Bowl competition.

The Teams that qualify on an annual basis will be the All Ireland qualifiers, Rock and the Holders of the previous season. If both are included in the Qualifiers those who participated in the inaugural competition will be invited as next best qualified basis.

The current holders of the Trophy are Blackrock College RFC when it was last played for in their Centenary year in 1982.

It is the Clubs intention to make this an Annual Prestigious competition at U21/U20 level to help begin the Season.
