The new Munster coaching team of Rob Penney, Simon Mannix and Anthony Foley put the Munster squad through their paces at Cork IT yesterday.
The Munster squad were in pre-season training at Cork IT yesterday with new head coach Rob Penney and backs coach Simon Mannix in situ alongside forwards coach Anthony Foley and team manager Niall O’Donovan.
New signing Casey LauLaLa, who worked with Penney previously, was in action and there were other new faces such as Barry O’Mahony and Christy Condon who have impressed in the Ulster Bank League and for the Ireland Club team in recent seasons.
Ireland U-20 star JJ Hanrahan, who was shortlisted for the IRB Junior World Championship Player of the Year, will be out to make an impression on Mannix and Penney as will the returning Ireland scrum-half Peter Stringer.
Penney, who arrived on Monday, said he had been “Having a really close look over the last few days since I arrived. I can’t speak highly enough about their endeavour, their attitude to their work and their commitment to what’s required. It has been exceptional and both Simon and I are in awe of the effort, energy and excitement that the young blokes are bringing,” said Penney.
“Once you have that, if you have the hard work ethic and a desire to do well, you are well down the path to creating some talented individuals. Now it is up to us to expand their knowledge and understanding of what they are doing and when they are doing it”.
