Free Seminar On Prevention Of Spinal Injuries

IRFU Sports Medicine Events will host a free evening lecture on the Prevention and Management of Catastrophic Cervical Spine Injuries in Sport by Dr. Erik Swartz.

Dr. Swartz has published numerous position statements and journal articles on this area from his experience in NFL and this lecture will have application for rugby union and other sports.

The lecture takes place on Thursday 30th August in the Royal College of Physicians from 6.30-7.30pm.

ERIK E SWARTZ
Erik E Swartz PhD, ATC, FNATA is an Associate Professor and Clinical Coordinator in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of New Hampshire. His primary research interest involves studying the acute management of athletes with a cervical spine injury.

He has been published in multiple journals and presented his research on state, regional and national levels. He serves on the NFL Head Neck and Spine Committee’s Subcommittee on Safety Equipment and Rules and on the NATA Conference Programming Committee.

He is on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Athletic Training and Athletic Training and Sports Health Care Journal. Dr. Swartz was selected to chair the writing group for the NATA Position Statement on the Acute Management of the Cervical Spine Injured Athlete. He was recognized as the EATA 2009 ‘Research to Reality’ presenter, received the Outstanding New Investigator Research Award from the College of Health and Human Services at the University of New Hampshire, and was recognized in 2010 with an Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Toledo.

In 2011 he was honored with a Fellows designation in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
