Strategic Review Workshops Get Underway

The IRFU has announced the next stage in the strategic planning process for Irish rugby with further consultation workshops taking place over the next number of weeks with stakeholders in the game.

The IRFU have undertaken strategic planning processes in the past which covered various periods of growth from 2004-2008 and 2008-2012.

On this occasion, as Irish rugby closes in on the final phase of the last strategic planning period, the IRFU are striving to create a longer term vision which is inclusive and to create a brighter, sustainable future for Irish rugby on all levels

The past decade has seen huge changes and growth in Irish rugby. This has been built on the dedication of all stakeholders in Irish rugby including players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, sponsors, administrators, schools and clubs.

Over the last 12 months, the IRFU has had regular engagement and communication with clubs, with one of the key IRFU initiatives being the Club Engagement Process which occurred between September and December of 2011.

As set out in the resulting Club Engagement Report, the IRFU agreed to further engage with clubs on the development of the strategic plan for Irish rugby into 2020.

A full outline of the process, its timeline, current progress to date and background to the previous strategic plans are available here.

As the foundations of the plan begin to take shape, the IRFU have invited representatives from every club to attend an ‘Irish Rugby Strategic Action Workshop’ to contribute to the vision for Irish rugby and provide feedback on the proposals that have been developed.

There will be several meetings taking place over the next 10 days:

Leinster: Thursday, September 13: 6pm and 8pm, Dublin

Munster: Monday, September 17: 6pm and 8pm, Charleville

Connacht: Tuesday, September 18: 7.30pm, Galway

Ulster: Thursday, September 20: 6pm and 8pm, Belfast

Each invited club received a briefing pack in advance of the meetings which included an outline ‘White Paper’ on the strategic plans progress to date.

More information on the process is available on www.irishrugby.ie/strategicreview2012.
