SAFE-Rugby Courses Well Attended
The IRFU Medical Department hosted two Level 2 SAFE-Rugby courses in the Aviva Stadium last weekend. Fifty club and school medical team members attended the one-day events on emergency pitchside care.
The workshop focused on rugby specific scenarios (e.g. concussion and match ay planning), as well as acute injury care.
The day was composed of lectures and practical sessions with rapid practice scenarios in the Aviva Stadium medical room, warm-up and changing room areas.
SAFE-Rugby or Standard Approaches to Field Emergencies in Rugby is a new initiative to promote and deliver rugby specific pitchside emergency care courses.
Level 1 courses are for non-medical personnel in clubs/schools and Level 2 courses are for club/school medical teams.
The Level 1 courses will be rolled out towards the end of this year and further Level 2 courses are planned for Limerick, Galway and Belfast in the coming months.
