ULSTER BANK LEAGUE: DIVISION 2A: Friday, January 18

Bective Rangers (16th) v Greystones (13th), Donnybrook, Friday 18th, 8pm

The season is starting to hot up and every point matters in the race to avoid relegation.

Bective are bottom of the table, four points adrift of their visitors on Friday night. Rangers’ only win came in November against Seapoint and they have just three losing bonus points.

Greystones have an extra win and a draw to their name as well as two try bonuses. Difficult one to call and much depends on which side fared better over the winter break.

ULSTER BANK LEAGUE: DIVISION 2A: Saturday, January 19

 Kick-off 2.30pm unless stated –

City of Derry (9th) v Queens (10th), Judges Road

Another provincial derby game, this time in Ulster and with two mid-table sides who are unlikely to mount a late challenge.

City of Derry’s three wins and three try bonuses has them two points ahead of Queens. They have conceded 212 points – the second highest in the division with visitors Queens on 234.

Defence then is the key for both sides but it could be a good day for tries if the weather permits.

Corinthians (4th) v Highfield (5th),Corinthian Park

A big game at the top of the table with a chance to gain ground on the top three.

Corinthians are just six points behind leaders UCC and a win on Saturday would see them up to third if Banbridge beat ‘Nure.

Highfield are three points further back and need a win to keep in touch with the business end of the table.

Old Wesley (6th) v UCC (1st),Donnybrook

There are several key games in the in the division today and this one could have a real bearing on the standings come 5 o’clock on Saturday.

UCC lead the division by a single point but the chasing pack have a game in hand so a win is crucial if they are to stay out in front.

Old Wesley are reasonably placed at the turn of the season but a win on Saturday would push them into contention.

Midleton (15th) v DLSP (14th), Towns Park

Another potential relegation battle and a chance to move clear of the dogfight depending on the result in Donnybrook on Friday night.

Neither side has set the scoreboard alight with the home side averaging just over eleven points per game.

Still home advantage should be the telling factor and Midleton could heap more misery on DLSP as they struggle to build their young side this season.

Seapoint (11th) v Cashel (8th), Kilbogget Park

Two former Junior clubs who have made the leap to Ulster Bank League in recent seasons will clash in Kilbogget Park on Saturday.

Both are progressive and ambitious but are struggling to make headway this season.

Still this could be an entertaining game with the visitors on form for the points.

Terenure College (3rd) v Banbridge (2nd), Lakelands

Match of the day in Division 2A as 3rd hosts 2nd with the chasing pack also clashing and both sides having a game in hand on league leaders UCC.

Both sides have won six out of seven and have healthy points differences. They have eight try bonuses between them and two of the tightest defences in the division.

All told this could be a real humdinger or they could cancel each other out. Either way it will be an absorbing encounter in Lakelands on Saturday afternoon.
