Ulster Expand Summer Rugby Camps For Girls

Ulster Rugby and independent retailer Centra have announced plans to expand provision for girls during the province’s 2013 Summer Camps programme.

Following on from the two successful Girls Youth Camps last year, Ulster Rugby have added another location to its programme of Summer Camps, which are sponsored by Centra and its independent retail partners.

The camps, for girls aged 12-17 years, will be based at Armagh RFC, Queen’s University RFC and Letterkenny RFC.

The girls camps will take place over three days and no prior experience of the game is necessary. The aim of the camps will be to introduce and develop key rugby skills in a fun and safe environment, under the watchful eyes of qualified and experienced coaches.

At a cost of £30, the participants will not only receive a full coaching programme delivered by Ulster Rugby coaches, but will also take away an Ulster Rugby T-shirt, rugby ball and boot bag as well as a ticket voucher for an Ulster match at Ravenhill.

Zoe Templeton, Female Rugby Officer at Ulster Rugby, commented: “Following on from the success of the two camps last year, Ulster Rugby felt it was important to add a third location to meet the demand.

“The recent success of the Ireland Women’s squad winning the Six Nations Grand Slam has thrust Women’s rugby into the spotlight and this has resulted in more and more young girls looking to give it a go.”

Jenni Barkley from Centra commented: “Centra and its independent retail partners across Northern Ireland have proudly supported the Ulster Rugby Summer Camps for five years, because they provide a great opportunity for young people to learn new skills, enjoy some exercise and have fun during the summer holidays.

“The girls camps allow even more young people to experience the summer camps and enjoy grassroots rugby.”

The Ulster Rugby Girls Camps will take place on the following dates:

Letterkenny RFC: Monday, July 29-Wednesday, July 31
Armagh RFC: Monday, August 5-Wednesday, August 8
Queen’s University RFC, Dub Lane: Monday, August 12-Wednesday, August 14

– All camps run from 9.30am to 1.30pm
