Mullingar And Ballincollig Receive SAFE Rugby Level 1 Training

Mullingar RFC became the first club to receive a defibrillator under the IRFU SAFE Rugby Level 1 programme last weekend.

20 Mullingar RFC members undertook the one-day rugby specific first aid course and IRFU First Aid and Injury Prevention Officer Shane Mooney presented the defibrillator to club president Mick Lambe following the course.

A limited number of defibrillators are available to clubs and schools who have six members participate in the IRFU Standard Approach to Field Emergencies in Rugby (SAFE Rugby) Level 1 programme.

Ballincollig RFC also had a first, becoming the first Munster club to host a SAFE Rugby course with another 20 club members and coaches taking part.

Level 1 courses are for non-medical personnel involved in clubs and schools including coaches, players, parents, officials and referees.

More Level 1 courses are scheduled in Skerries RFC (Dublin) on Sunday, September 8 and Waterpark RFC (Waterford) on Saturday, September 21 and are open to club/school members outside of these clubs.

Level 2 courses for club/school medical personnel are schedule for the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, September 7 and the Sportsground in Galway on Sunday, September 29.
