Jones Sidelined, Hurley And Ryan Await Scans

The Munster squad commenced their preparations today for next Friday’s RaboDirect PRO12 top of the table clash with Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium (kick-off 7.35pm).

As the Munster squad assembled in the University of Limerick this morning, a number of players did not take part in training after sustaining a few knocks against Gloucester last Saturday.

Felix Jones, who was replaced after 58 minutes of the Heineken Cup round 2 tie, picked up a slight ankle sprain and has been ruled out of selection for the game against Glasgow Warriors.

Jones’ replacement at full-back, Denis Hurley, sustained an injury himself 10 minutes later and will undergo a scan on his left knee to identify possible medial ligament damage.

Donnacha Ryan, who came off after 70 minutes with a knock to his knee, will also undergo a scan and meet with a specialist before his prognosis is confirmed.

Niall Ronan (sprained ankle) was ruled out the morning of the Gloucester match after failing to pass a fitness test. He will continue to be monitored as the week progresses.

Meanwhile, Gerry Hurley will meet with the specialist tomorrow for an update on his finger injury that he sustained in training at the start of October. The scrum half will continue with his rehabilitation process.

There was positive news for Luke O’Dea (wrist) over the weekend as he saw 30 minutes of game-time for the first time since March, lining out with his club side Shannon against Dolphin in the ODM Munster Senior Cup.

Ian Nagle (foot) is progressing well but is still out of consideration for the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Tommy O’Donnell (knee), Paddy Butler (thumb) and Simon Zebo (foot) are all continuing with their rehabilitation programmes.
