Ireland Women’s Twickenham Game To Be Televised

Confirmation has come through today that the Ireland Women’s team’s crunch clash with England at Twickenham on Saturday week (February 22) will be televised live on RTE Two.

The round 3 date, which kicks off at 6.20pm after the men’s game, will see defending champions Ireland chase their second successive Triple Crown.

Philip Doyle’s squad won the Grand Slam and Triple Crown last year and opened the current campaign with a record-breaking 59-0 defeat of Scotland before coming from behind to beat Wales 14-6 last Friday.

Both of those matches at Ashbourne RFC were streamed live here on IrishRugby.ie and RTE.ie. They are available to watch now on the IRFU’s YouTube channel – Scotland (first half and second half) and Wales (first half and second half).

The Twickenham game will be the second ever Women’s rugby international to be broadcast live on Irish television – RTÉ Two carried live coverage of Ireland’s Grand Slam decider in Italy last March.

On Saturday week, commentary will come from Ryle Nugent amd 2013 Grand Slam winner Joy Neville, while another former Irish international, Rosie Foley, will provide expert analysis in studio.

Head coach Philip Doyle told RTÉ Sport: “It’s just Twickenham, it’s just a stadium. We’re not going to build ourselves up for it because we know the challenge ahead. England are an incredibly good side.”
