Sun Shines On Aviva Mini Rugby Festival

The sun shone down on the Aviva Stadium last Saturday as more than 400 boys and girls from 20 teams took part in the Aviva Mini Rugby Festival and enjoyed a chance to play where their heroes play.

Accompanied by parents and coaches, the Under-10s mini rugby stars made their way to the iconic home of Irish rugby last Saturday for a day that will live long in their memories.

For many this was an opportunity of a lifetime – a chance to run out on the hallowed turf of Aviva Stadium and to play on the pitch that saw Brian O’Driscoll bid farewell so recently.

Each team ran onto the pitch to a fanfare before taking part in four matches throughout the day. There was also a tour of the Ireland dressing room included for good measure and a goodie bag courtesy of Aviva to take on the long bus journey home.

The mini rugby ethos aims to foster and develop young players (boys & girls) of all ability in the game of rugby but most of all to have fun!

Former Munster and Ireland flanker David Wallace, who was on hand to meet the players, commented: “A day like to day will be locked in the memory banks of these young players forever.

“Mini rugby is great for player development and personal development and to play here at the Aviva Stadium is such a fantastic opportunity.”
