Hundreds of family, friends and supporters greeted the Ireland Women’s team at Dublin Airpost yesterday as they arrived home from the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
With Ireland’s Call ringing out the Women’s team emerged into the arrivals hall to a heroes welcome as they were cheered to the rafters by the well wishers decked out in green.
Ireland finished 4th at the tournament, their highest ever placing, and captured even more hearts with their heroic win over the previously all conquering New Zealand.
Retiring captain Fiona Coghlan spoke of the team’s disappointment with how the tournament ended but she was was overwhelmed by the cheers, tweeting
We weren’t expecting that. Thanks to everyone that came out to the airport, unbelievable ????
