Ulster Bank League: Division 2B Previews

There are only five points between the first and fifth-placed teams in Division 2A, and with Bruff and Tullamore squaring off there could be some changes.

De La Salle Palmerston (10th) v Navan (8th), Kirwan Park, Friday, November 14, 7.30pm

A mid-table clash with two points separating the sides who will go head-to-head at Kirwan Park on Friday night.

‘Salmo moved up the table thanks to their away win over Boyne last weekend. Next up they face a Navan side smarting from their loss at home to Sunday’s Well.

Can the Dublin side overcome provincial opposition two weeks in a row?

Highfield (1st) v Kanturk (9th), Woodleigh Park, Friday, November 14, 7.30pm

You cannot beat a good Cork derby and we could be in for a cracker at Woodleigh Park on Friday night.

Highfield came from behind late in the game to take the four points on offer in Armagh last Saturday, while Kanturk enjoyed a big bonus point win at home to Ards. Form still favours the home team but you can never tell in a derby game.

Ards (16th) v Greystones (6th), Hamilton Park

A winless Ards are really struggling at the bottom of the table and at this stage of this season already look set to be in a relegation dogfight.

Greystones’ victory over Midleton last weekend keeps them right in the chase at the business end of the table and they should travel north in optimistic form. An away win is on the cards.

Midleton (7th) v Boyne (14th), Towns Park

Midleton slipped to seventh place but are by no means out of the running and could climb back up as early as this weekend.

Boyne are in trouble at the bottom of the table, their sole triumph to date coming against bottom side Ards. A home win is in prospect, but can the Cork side get a vital bonus point as well?

Richmond (15th) v Sligo (2nd), Richmond Park

Second-from-bottom hosts second from top in this Richmond Park encounter on Saturday. The home side are still without a win – a losing bonus point is their lone return to date.

Sligo are four out of five with two try-scoring bonus points and a losing bonus. They look set to add to their win ratio again this weekend but can they secure another bonus?

Sunday’s Well (12th) v Old Crescent (13th), Irish Independent Park

Neither side moved in the rankings last week though both of them won. The Well picked up a valuable away win over Navan.

Old Crescent put a dent in Tullamore’s ambition in a 7-6 dogfight. A single point separates these sides in the table. Expect a tight game and a possible draw on Saturday afternoon.

Tullamore (5th) v Bruff (3rd), Spollanstown

Match of the day? It could certainly have a big impact on the top four.

The home side were surprisingly beaten by Old Crescent last weekend, while Bruff overtook them with a derby win over Richmond. You would still have to favour Tullamore in this one but it should be a tough game.

Wanderers (11th) v Armagh (4th), Merrion Road

A mixed bag for Wanderers since returning to the Ulster Bank League. Won two, drawn one and lost two.

That said, those two losses have come to clubs in the top five. Unfotunately for them, Armagh are in fourth place and stung by a late loss last time out. Well worth catching this clash at Merrion Road on Saturday afternoon.
