The Ireland Women’s Sevens squad will kick off their competitive season with a tournament in Biarritz this weekend.
This is the first step on the road to an Olympic qualifying tournament in July 2015.
The squad features two of the Ireland Women’s side that finished fourth in the recent Women’s Rugby World Cup as Jenny Murphy and Ashleigh Baxter have joined the Sevens prgramme.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, head coach Jon Skurr said: “This is the start of a long road that will ultimately finish with the Olympic qualifying event in July.
“The girls have worked hard throughout pre-season and are raring to go. Now it’s about challenging ourselves against two Women’s Sevens World Series teams – England and Spain – and a very tough Welsh side.”
