Munster head coach Anthony Foley will be eager to get a number of his walking wounded back to full fitness for his side’s return to GUINNESS PRO12 action against Cardiff Blues in Cork on Saturday, February 14.
Following last Sunday’s final round Champions Cup victory over Sale Sharks, ten Munster players departed for Ireland camp in Carton House, including Keith Earls, Dave Foley and Conor Murray.
On a positive note, Earls, who was replaced for precautionary reasons after 44 minutes, has been deemed fit to train this week.
It was also confirmed that second row Foley, who was an early second half replacement, sustained ligament damage in his wrist and he will have a surgical consultation later this week.
Meanwhile, Murray (pictured below in Ireland camp today) will continue to undergo assessment and will have further scans on the neck injury he sustained against Zebre recently.
Back in the Munster camp, Denis Hurley requires an X-ray for a shoulder injury he picked up in the opening 20 minutes of last Sunday’s encounter. Robin Copeland, also shoulder, was a late withdrawal from the matchday squad and he will continue to be monitored by the medical team this week.
The squad will use the next few days as a recovery period before departing for a six-day warm weather training camp in Lanzarote on Saturday.
Anthony Foley will be pleased with the news that Dave Kilcoyne (shoulder), Andrew Smith (knee), Luke O’Dea (hand) and Cathal Sheridan (forearm) have all stepped up their rehabilitation programmes and are moving closer to a return.
Tyler Bleyendaal landed in Shannon Airport on Saturday, arriving in time to experience a Thomond Park match day and he was on hand to support his new colleagues in the final pool game. The New Zealander will undergo a full medical assessment this week.
And finally, the following players will continue to rehab under the province’s medical and strength & conditioning staff – Cian Bohane (knee), Alan Cotter (bicep), Johnny Holland (hamstring), Johne Murphy (hand), Barry O’Mahony (ankle), Donnacha Ryan (toe), Mike Sherry (shoulder), CJ Stander (ankle), Gerhard van den Heever (knee) and Damien Varley (foot).
