Munster Duo Extend Contracts, Coghlan Moves South

Munster Rugby and the IRFU have confirmed that Ronan O’Mahony and Duncan Williams have signed two-year contract extensions with the province, and that Leinster Academy player Jordan Coghlan will join Munster on a development contract.

Scrum half Duncan Williams has signed a two-year contract extension that will see him stay with the province until June 2017.

Williams, the most capped scrum half in the current Munster squad, made his league debut against Connacht at Thomond Park in December 2009 and has made 83 appearances for the province.

The Munster Academy graduate moved on to a full contract at the start of the 2010/11 season and made his European debut against London Irish that October at the Madejski Stadium. The 28-year-old most recently made his first start at European level against Saracens at Allianz Park.

Ronan O’Mahony has penned a two-year deal that will see the winger move from development to full contact status at the start of the 2015/16 season.

As a final year Academy player, he made a try-scoring league debut against the Newport Gwent Dragons at Rodney Parade in April 2013. The Limerick man has made 20 appearances for the province, scoring three tries.

The 25-year-old made his Champions Cup debut last month, coming off the bench against Saracens at Allianz Park, before making his first European start a week later against Sale Sharks at Thomond Park.

Back rower Jordan Coghlan is in his final year of the Leinster Rugby Academy and the 22-year-old will join Munster at the start of next season on a one-year development contract.

The former Clongowes Wood College student made his league debut in September 2012 off the bench against the Dragons at Rodney Parade, and was part of the Leinster ‘A’ squad that won British & Irish Cup titles in 2013 and 2014. He represented the Ireland Under-20s during the 2012 U-20 Six Nations and Junior World Championship.

Commenting on the signings, Munster head coach Anthony Foley said: “Looking ahead it is great to have Ronan and Duncan on board again as we continue to build our squad for next season, and in signing Jordan we look forward to seeing him develop and contribute to the squad.”
