IRFU Issue Ticket Warning Of Online Scams

The Irish Rugby Football Union today urged fans not to buy tickets from unofficial sources for the sold-out Ireland v England match this weekend after a number of people contacted the Union to report losing money after attempting to buy tickets advertised on well-known websites.

The IRFU advises fans to only ever buy tickets from official IRFU ticket sources, such as its patrons or supporters club, Ticketmaster, approved hospitality partners or directly from local rugby clubs, as the Union does not have capacity to accommodate people who lose money to ticket touts or arrive at the Aviva Stadium with forged tickets.

In one instance a supporter was scammed twice in two separate transactions on two different websites.

IRFU spokesperson Stephen McNamara said: “The IRFU advises fans to only ever buy tickets for our games from official sources.  We have been contacted by a number of people who thought they had secured tickets through well-known websites only to find that the tickets did not transpire and their money was lost.

“When the IRFU becomes aware of tickets being resold above face value we follow up with the original purchaser, where sufficient information is available to identify them, and request that they desist from the practice, or their ticket will be cancelled.

“Unfortunately, with the Aviva Stadium completely full we will not be able to accommodate anyone who does not have an official match ticket.”
