Ahead of Connacht’s crunch GUINNESS PRO12 round 18 encounter with provincial rivals Munster at Thomond Park next Saturday (kick-off 5.15pm), the westerners’ medical team provided the following update.
Scrum half Kieran Marmion and back rower Eoin McKeon, who have missed Connacht’s last three and four games respectively due to injury, have both been declared fit and available for selection.
However, Jake Heenan sustained a rotator cuff tear to his right shoulder during the last round against Cardiff Blues. While his previous stabilisation surgery was not affected, the most recent injury will leave the New Zealander sidelined for the remainder of the season as he undergoes rehab.
The flanker will not require further surgery and is expected to be fully fit for the start of the pre-season period in the summer.
Meanwhile, Willie Faloon has re-dislocated his shoulder in training and will undergo surgery on Friday of this week. The openside has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Tighthead prop Nathan White remains sidelined due to ongoing lumbar spine issues affecting his leg. He is being closely monitored and is due for a specialist review in the coming days.
Dave McSharry sustained a knee injury in training late last week and will undergo further investigation this week to determine the extent of the damage. The 25-year-old centre will be unavailable for the upcoming clash with Munster.
Bundee Aki continues to rehab post ankle surgery and while progress has been made, the 24-year-old will not be available this week. Fellow back Niyi Adeolokun returns to partial training this week but it is unlikely that the winger will be available in time for the inteprovincial derby at Thomond Park.
