Out-half Ivan Poole kicked three penalties – the last of them in injury-time – to guide Enniscorthy to a 9-8 win over Kilkenny in Sunday’s Bank of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup final at Cill Dara RFC.
Ivan Poole’s haul of three successful penalties proved enough for Enniscorthy in the end, as a brave Kilkenny side suffered their second Towns Cup final defeat in as many seasons.
A 70th minute try from captain David O’Connor following a powerful maul had the Marble city outfit ahead, but Poole came to ‘Scorthy’s rescue as they reclaimed the trophy – 90 years on from the Wexford club’s first ever Towns Cup triumph.
