This year’s Limerick World Club Se7ens is even more special with the inclusion of not one but all four of the Irish provinces.
Anthony Eddy, IRFU Director of Rugby Sevens, explained: “The development of Sevens rugby is a key priority for the IRFU and it is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the best of Irish Sevens against some of the world’s strongest sides.
“The Rio Olympics are just around the corner and events such as the Limerick World Club Se7ens provides Irish rugby supporters the opportunity to experience high quality Sevens first hand and also provides the opportunity for our players to continue to develop and gain valuable sevens experience.”
Represented at the tournament will be teams from both the northern and southern Hemispheres. Teams will include reigning champions Daveta Fiji (pictured below), who will return to defend their Limerick World Club Se7ens title, along with 2014 Twickenham 7s champions Buenos Aires and one of South Africa’s leading provincial Sevens teams.
“We are thrilled to have the four provincial teams take part in this year’s Limerick World Club Se7ens tournament and with the growing popularity of Sevens in Ireland along with the upcoming addition of Sevens in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, it is an honour for the Limerick World Club Se7ens team to showcase the very best that Ireland has to offer,” said Maeve Moriarty, General Manager, Limerick World Club Se7ens.
