Connacht And Ulster Drawn Together In World Club 7s
The draw for this year’s Limerick World Club 7s tournament at Thomond Park took place earlier today, with all four Irish provinces taking part for the first time. Notably, Connacht and Ulster have been drawn together in Pool C.
Following this morning’s draw at Dublin’s Herbert Park Hotel, a total of twelve teams from around the world – including the four Irish provinces – will compete in the following three pools.
POOL A: MUNSTER, Wellington, Canadian Maples, San Francisco.
POOL B: LEINSTER, Daveta Fiji, Stade Francais, New York.
POOL C: CONNACHT, Buenos Aires, Golden Lions, ULSTER.
The tournament takes place at Thomond Park across Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22. Hosts Munster have Wellington, Canadian Maples and San Francisco for company in Pool A, while Leinster will tackle defending champions Daveta Fiji, Stade Francais and New York in Pool B.
There will be plenty of Irish interest in the Pool C games with provincial rivals Connacht and Ulster facing each other as well as Buenos Aires, the 2014 Twickenham 7s champions, and Golden Lions.
Elite Player Development Officer Colm McMahon will again take charge of the Munster team for the event, with Munster ‘A’ team manager Alan Miller and senior squad S&C coach PJ Wilson also joining his backroom team.
