Buccaneers Welcome New Coach Wilkinson On Board

Buccaneers RFC have announced the appointment of Brett Wilkinson as head coach as the midlanders prepare for the forthcoming Ulster Bank League season.

Recently retired from professional rugby, Brett Wilkinson played in Connacht’s front row on 183 occasions and was also capped by Ireland ‘A’, for whom he made six appearances.

He will bring a wealth of forwards experience to his new role at Buccaneers RFC where he will be joined by fellow South African and current Connacht winger Danie Poolman, who is tasked with coaching the Pirates’ back-line.

Tommy Conlon returns as first team manager and the club has appointed Jude Lennon as director of rugby as Buccs bid to recover their swagger. With Wilkinson at the helm, the Pirates will be expected to play with a ‘cutting edge’ and have no ‘close shaves’ this season!

Wilkinson’s charges will open their Ulster Bank League Division 1B campaign against Shannon at Dubarry Park on Saturday, September 12. It promises to be a hectic opening day for the Pirates as it will also encompass Player Registrations and Family Day events.

Buccs have three Connacht Senior League fixtures prior to the Ulster Bank League, beginning with a trip to Corinthians on Saturday, August 15 and then clashes with Galwegians (home) on August 22 and Sligo (away) on August 29 before a senior squad camp on September 6.
