Captain Paul O’Connell becomes only the second Irish player to appear in four Rugby World Cups, matching Brian O’Driscoll. O’Connell also becomes the joint most-capped forward in Irish Test history, drawing level with John Hayes on 105.
There are six World Cup debutants in the starting line-up – Dave Kearney, Jared Payne, Luke Fitzgerald, Jack McGrath, Iain Henderson and Peter O’Mahony – with four more (Nathan White, Chris Henry, Ian Madigan and Simon Zebo) on the replacements bench.
