Boyne (8th) v Navan (6th), Shamrock Lodge, Friday, 8pm

As local derbies go this one is as hotly contested as any. There is always a good crowd, and a first ever Friday Night Lights clash at Shamrock Lodge should see a bumper attendance.

Boyne were well beaten by Tullamore last week and badly need a win to reignite their season, while Alan Kingsley-inspired Navan moved up to sixth by dint of their impressive win over Kanturk.

Dundalk (10th) v Kanturk (7th), Mill Road

Dundalk’s season continues to be tough – they lost by 20 points to Sligo last Saturday.

This weekend they host a Kanturk side who travel back up to Leinster having lost to Navan in their previous match. The Corkmen, who were held try-less at Balreask Old, should be good enough to get the win on the road this time.

Midleton (4th) v Tullamore (3rd),Towns Park

Midleton’s talented out-half Stuart Lee kicked well last week as the Cork side edged past Bruff to move up to fourth place in the standings.

Tullamore looked patchy in their win over Boyne – they will need a tighter performance and better discipline at Towns Park. Only a point separates these clubs in the table, and it is poised to be a tough, tight affair.

Sligo (9th) v Old Crescent (2nd), Hamilton Park

Sligo won their first league match last Saturday, beating bottom side Dundalk 39-19 with Ryan Feehily, one of their most impressive young players, scoring a hat-trick of tries.

They are at home again this weekend but they face a different challenge altogether in high-flying Old Crescent.

The Limerick club’s winning streak came to an end when they fell to a Wanderers fightback last time out. Eugene McGovern’s charges will not be caught like that a second time.

Wanderers (1st) v Bruff (5th), Merrion Road

Trailing by 16 points at half-time last Saturday, Wanderers pulled off an incredible comeback at Old Crescent to take the win and go top of the table. Potentially a season defining moment for the Dubliners, for whom Ciaran Wade has been in cracking form.

This weekend they host Bruff, who lost by three points to Midleton last Saturday. Back up the comeback performance and Wanderers could set a real marker for this division.
