O’Brien Being Treated For ‘Inner Ear Issue’

After further investigation during the return-to-play protocols and having met with an ear specialist, Leinster and Ireland back rower Sean O’Brien is now being treated for an inner ear issue.

Sean O’Brien, who missed the province’s recent clashes with Bath and Ulster, has vestibular impairment which affects his balance. He took a limited part in Leinster’s training session yesterday and will be assessed on an ongoing basis.

Meanwhile, in other player news, Richardt Strauss has passed the return-to-play proocols, trained yesterday and is available for selection this weekend away to Glasgow Warriors.

Rob Kearney also trained yesterday and Leinster are hopeful that having been ruled out of last Friday’s derby game and having had a few extra days of treatment that he will be available for selection against Glasgow after his hamstring issue.

Luke McGrath, who had to be replaced during the first half of the win over Ulster, has a medial strain and will miss the Glasgow encounter. However, the young scrum half is expected to be back in contention for the European Champions Cup trip to Toulon.

Noel Reid, who was stretchered off against the Ulstermen, has not broken any bone in his ankle but there is ligament damage. He is waiting for the results of a further scan before seeing a specialist later this week to decide on the best course of action.

In addition, Jonathan Sexton took a bang to his back and was only suffering from some stiffness after the game. He is available for selection this week.
