IRFU Charitable Trust & Co-operation Ireland Launch Entwined Histories Challenge

To mark the 100-year anniversary of the 1916 Rising and the tens of thousands of Irish people that fought and died at the Battle of the Somme, the IRFU Charitable Trust and Co-operation Ireland have teamed up to create the ‘Entwined Histories Challenge’.

The Entwined Histories Challenge is a 100K Walk or 450K Cycle tour of the important historical sites of the 1916 Rising and the battlefields of Northern France culminating in a visit to the memorials of the Somme. The challenge will take between May 23 and 29, 2016.

Participants are asked to raise a sponsorship target of €;2,000/£1600 of which approximately 50% will go to the host charities, the IRFU Charitable Trust and Co-operation Ireland. Travel and accommodation, meals and guides are provided.

Former Ireland international and supporter of the IRFU Charitable Trust, Mick Quinn, commented: “This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the shared history of the island of Ireland 100 years on from the dramatic and tragic events of 1916 and the Battle of the Somme.

This challenge is open to anyone with an interest in Irish history and is raising funds for two very worthy causes.”
