Ahead of next Friday’s GUINNESS PRO12 derby encounter with Ulster in Belfast (kick-off 7.35pm), the Connacht Rugby medical team have provided the following update.
Nathan White suffered a concussion during the first half of last Saturday’s hard-fought 7-6 victory over Leinster. The tighthead prop will go through the normal RTP protocols.
Out-half AJ MacGinty sustained an AC joint (shoulder) injury and will be out of action for at least four weeks, as he joins fellow numbers 10s, Jack Carty and Craig Ronaldson, on the sidelines.
Connacht head coach Pat Lam said: “Although the injury list is now low and we have good depth in some positions, having three 10s out is a bit of a killer blow, but you can’t control the injuries.
“The number one thing is understanding the role of what needs to happen, and for the next person it is his job to do it. A lot of the backs can play in more than one position, it’s the beauty of our game.
“Of course we would like to have Jack, AJ, and Craig Ronaldson available, but you can’t cry over it, you’ve just got to move on and the next person puts the jersey on and steps into the role.”
Menwhile, second row Ultan Dillane, who missed the game against Leinster, has recovered well from his shoulder injury. The 22-year-old Ireland international is available for selection this week.
Jake Heenan continues to undergo treatment for his ankle ligament injury sustained in training last week. His progress will be monitored and a decision made on his availability ahead of the team announcement on Thursday afternoon.
