Ulster Bank League: Division 2C Previews

One thing is certain in Division 2C and that is that Old Crescent are champions and promoted for next season. Elsewhere the promotion playoffs and relegation go to the wire.

Bruff (3rd) v Dundalk (10th), Kilballyowen Park
A Bruff win could see them at home or away to Tullamore on the promotion playoffs that follow the regular season – it depends on the size of the win and results elsewhere.

Dundalk face relegation after just a season in the Ulster Bank League with just three wins from the campaign so far.

The slim chance of a relegation playoff is just that and would require Dundalk to win big and Sligo to lose heavily.

A home win, but the margin will matter.

Midleton (5th) v Boyne (8th), Towns Park
Midleton can’t make the top four but Boyne could still be overhauled in the table by  a Sligo side that are just two points adrift.

It was 31 – 29 to Boyne at the very start of the season and a similar result would see them safe come Saturday evening.

Needs must – an away win.

Old Crescent (1st) v Tullamore (2nd), Rosbrien
It could have been a contender. It could have been the match that decided the title on a dramatic final day.

Instead Old Crescent stuck to the winning formula and notched up the results to claim the title with a round to spare.

Still a big game and a 2nd place for Tullamore would give them home advantage in the first of the playoffs.

Sligo (9th) v Navan (6th), Hamilton Park
Wins over Kanturk and Boyne have given Sligo a lifeline. All they can do now is grab it with both hands.

Hamilton Park is proving a difficult place to get a result – as Wanderers and Bruff can attest.

A home win and a favour from Midleton and Sligo avoid relegation and playoff altogether.

Wanderers (4th) v Kanturk (7th), Aviva Stadium Back Pitch
Wanderers can’t be caught in 4th place and it would need Bruff to lose to see them climb higher.

Right now they face the prospect of a trip to Rainey in the promotion playoffs.

They’d like to do that on the back of win. It was 32 – 27 in their favour when they travelled to Kanturk earlier in the season.
