Following on from the bonus point win against Edinburgh, the Munster squad gathered in their respective centres this morning for gym sessions and meetings as preparations commenced for next Saturday’s decisive GUINNESS PRO12 encounter with the Scarlets at Thomond Park (kick-off 3pm).
After a hugely physical battle last Friday, a number of bumps and bruises were reported to the medical team including Francis Saili (ribs), Simon Zebo (ankle) and Rory Scannell (dead leg). The trio are expected to take a full part in training later in the week.
Dave O’Callaghan (knee bruising) and Dave Foley (ankle) showed no ill-effects following on from their respective knocks with both forwards featuring for most of the game.
Donnacha Ryan continues to be monitored by the medical staff for a concussion he sustained in the Connacht game and will be unavailable for next Saturday’s final round clash. Kevin O’Byrne (knee) returns to full training this week.
BJ Botha (knee), Mark Chisholm (concussion), Tyler Bleyendaal (quad), Denis Hurley (calf), Mario Sagario (ankle) and Peter O’Mahony (ACL) all continue to follow their respective rehabilitation programmes.
On the club front, Darren Sweetnam claimed Bateman Cup honours with Cork Constitution at Crowley Park on Saturday after the Munster club defeated Galwegians 38-19 to secure their fourth successive title.
Greencore Academy players Ned Hodson, Tomas Quinlan, Ryan Foley, Liam O’Connor and Rory Burke all featured in the victory with Foley scoring two tries and winning the man-of-the-match award, while Quinlan kicked three conversions and four penalties.
O’Connor and Burke also featured in yesterday’s Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup final against Young Munster in Irish Independent Park.
While, in Limerick, try scorer Dan Goggin, Gearoid Lyons and Ben Betts helped Young Munster secure their place in the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup decider on Saturday afternoon with a win over Old Crescent, with Betts continuing his club action on Sunday in Junior Cup success against Con.
