Ireland U-18 Girls Sevens Squad Named For European Championship
The Ireland Under-18 Girls Sevens squad will compete at the Rugby Europe Under-18 Women’s Sevens Championship this weekend in Vichy, France.
The Ireland Sevens management have confirmed their squad of 12 players to travel to Vichy in France this weekend to compete in the Rugby Europe Under-18 Women’s Sevens Championship. The tournament fixtures/pools are listed here.
The squad features seven players who won bronze medals at the UK School Games in Loughborough University last weekend.
Brittany Hogan, Claire Boles, Eimear Corri, Ellie Rix, Emily Lane, Enya Breen and Katie Heffernan were all involved in last weekend’s competition, with Portlaoise winger Corri scoring six tries in as many games.
The Irish side have been drawn in a challenging pool with Russia, Germany and invitational side USA. Coach Stan McDowell is looking forward to seeing how the players get on in France.
“We have a very talented group of Under-18 players and we have selected 12 of those to travel to Vichy this weekend to take part in the Rugby Europe tournament,” said McDowell.
“We are going to be up against some very good opposition in Pool C. Germany, Russia and the USA will all have strong teams with them so the players will need to be at the top of their game.
“There was a strong showing last weekend at the UK School Games, so we’ll be hoping the players who were involved there can build on that success, while the new players in the squad will have the opportunity to show what they can do.”
The Ireland U-18 Girls will start the competition against Russia on Saturday, before facing the USA and finishing the day against Germany.
